Pre- & Post-Natal Yoga

Prenatal & Postnatal

Yoga is the practice of asana (postures) and pranayama (breath) to create balance in the body, mind and soul.

During pregnancy and after birth, your body and needs change week by week. Our pre- and post-natal classes adapt with you, offering gentle movement, breathing and rest in a calm, supportive space in Edgemead.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga helps to increase flexibility, reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing. It is a gentle form of exercise that focuses on breathing and relaxation, and is generally considered safe throughout pregnancy.

It can also help prepare you for childbirth by strengthening the pelvic muscles, reducing the risk of back pain and improving circulation.

Better circulation:

Prenatal yoga improves blood circulation, reducing swelling and fatigue in the legs, feet and hands.

Breathing techniques:

Yoga teaches breathing techniques that are useful during labour and delivery, helping you stay calm and relaxed.

Postnatal Yoga

Postnatal yoga focuses on exercises that target the abdominal and pelvic muscles, as well as the upper body and hips. This helps improve posture and reduce tension in the back, neck and shoulders.

In addition to the physical benefits, postnatal yoga also supports your mental and emotional wellbeing.

Promotes bonding with baby:

Postnatal classes often include baby-friendly poses that help new mothers bond with their infants.

Enhances mental wellbeing:

Yoga promotes mindfulness and stress relief, helping new mothers cope with the physical and emotional demands of motherhood.

Before you start

Let us know how far along you are, or how long ago you gave birth, and about any complications. Every pose is adapted for your stage, and you are always encouraged to rest when you need to.

Please get the go-ahead from your doctor or midwife before starting prenatal yoga, and before returning to exercise after birth (usually after your six-week check, or later after a caesarean).
